IPhones for Congress?
Seriously…? That’s basically all I can say anymore… What ever happened to, doing what’s best for the people you represent and not yourselves?
Well I found an interesting article “iPhones are a must-have for Congress” which amazed me when I read it. My question I guess is why….? They currently use a BlackBerry which can do everything if not more than an Iphone except the use of a touchscreen.
The Best part of the article however is “they will be required to pay for it out of the Member’s Representational Allowance.” Now is that coming out of the taxes revenue? Probably so… I love how the average american which makes no where near 100K a year can afford to buy one, but a member of Congress who makes over that has to dip into our taxes to pay for something that is definatly not needed.
I say, if you spoiled bastards want the IPhone, open your wallets and buy the thing yourself, like every other american has done.

The Industry Standard reported the following on October 27, 2008:
The iPhone is not coming to the halls of Congress anytime soon, according to Jeff Ventura, press secretary for Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House of Representatives Dan Beard. “We’ve had some interest from offices inquiring if we would ever offer them,” he told The Standard. “Quite frankly, we don’t think this is something that is even going to be offered in the near future.”
Ventura told me that “if demand is high, [the CAO's] role in terms of operational support of the members is to make what they want happen.” However, there remains much testing before iPhones could be offered as an option. “A good deal of planning and investment in various software — particularly around security” would need to be done. “Unless demand is incredible for them, it’s probably not something that we will be offering.”
