More evidence that this congress and presidency are in a rush to seize as much power as quickly as possible appeared as news organizations uncovered a bill aimed at allowing the president the power to shut down the internet for the private sector in the interest of national security.

Think if Iran had completely shut out the internet during the riots seen shortly after the recent election.  That would have meant that there would have been no information leaving that country in any form.  Does anyone remember that even the most reputable of news organizations were relying on social networking sites including Twitter and Facebook to gain knowledge on what was happening there?

This is a dangerous scenario were it to be passed and implemented.   Think if Obama or any future president decided to institute martial law and close down the internet.  No citizens would be able to relay information to anyone else.

The internet has eclipsed network news as the source of information preferred by the private sector.  This slaps blatantly as yet another attempt to leach power from the citizens of this country into that of our government.  We shouldn’t be letting this happen.  So why are we?  Does it really matter the party doing it?
