I never assumed, much less even bemused that the National Enquirer would be a reliable source of information.  So when the story broke of Democrat John Edwards having an extra-marital affair, it got cataloged with all the other erroneous accounts of celebrity and government scandals.

So when it turned out true, people were surprised.  Honestly I think it was more that something out of the Enquirer was true.  Myself and many Americans have come to expect affairs from our politicians.

Now, Fox News is reporting that Edwards, through this affair with former campaign videographer, Rielle Hunter, did indeed father a child born over 18 months ago.  According to the report, a DNA test was performed and confirmed Edwards’ paternity.

Edwards had previously admitted to the affair after news was leaked, and also agreed to tests as well when Hunter became pregnant, though denying that he was the father.

Until now, aide for John Edwards, Andrew Young had claimed that he was the father (a claim supported by Hunter herself) while money was shoveled to Hunter’s company as the story quietly went away.

Surprise!  It will be interesting as more comes from this and the rumored grand jury investigation into the funds that changed hands surrounding this event.
