I caught myself reading some commentary from CNN’s Jack Cafferty.  I must admit, I agree with him: the GOP is a failed party.  But it is not for the reasons he claims, nor is saving it found within his words.

If this past November wasn’t signal enough, the Republican Party has lost.  It has lost both in substance and in message.  Why?

It isn’t the grammar mistakes Jack speaks of.  A great deal of the American public would not even recognize it.  I, myself wasn’t taught grammar until college.  I, like a great many Americans, still struggle with grammar.

Is it the public money being used for not-so-legit uses like with Palin?  Nope.  That’s a problem, but it is not all that different from Charlie Rangel’s tax problems.  Nor is it different from the recent revelations of Pelosi’s travel arrangements.

It certainly isn’t the recent Limbaugh battle either.

The problem with the Republican Party is that while trying to be the bastions of civic, fiscal, and political responsibility, they behave like, well… Democrats.

One oh so fun behavior is blocking the Dems tries at passing social programs in the name of saving the budget, but then pork it up for their own gains.

Conservatives at large see this.  The commentators like Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, et al see this.  Their solution: act like Republicans.  Don’t just talk the talk.

The Dems solutions, act like Dems!  But that is what’s gotten them in trouble to begin with.

Sure, I am not happy that Democrats are just throwing more wood on a burning fire in hopes that eventually there will be enough on top to smother the fire.  But, I am even less happy that Republicans are calling it wrong, only to throw more wood on anyway.

At least the Dems are doing what they said they would do: spend.  Dems actually fight for what they claim they want to fight for.  Doesn’t matter if you agree with it or not.  Doesn’t matter if it’s what this country really needs.

And when this all fails?  The Dems and Republicans will each have someone to blame: Republicans.  No viable alternatives are being offered other than just tax cuts by the GOP. And with the substantial amount of dollars being added by Republican projects…

I certainly do not like the direction that we’re being taken right now, but it’s better to know that we’re heading towards Socialism than to close our eyes thinking we’re going elsewhere only to find we’ve arrived anyway.
